ITC’s Building Communities initiative focuses on making lasting contributions in the communities we build in. Projects vary from school playgrounds and food bank donations to recycling and career development programs.
Bladerunners Program: BLADERUNNERS is an internationally recognized, award-winning employment program assisting multi-barrier and disadvantaged youth in gaining on-the-job construction training and apprenticeships. ITC’s Woodward’s project is actively involved in providing work opportunities to young adults through this program.
B.O.B. Program: Building Opportunities with Business (BOB) is a non-profit organization that is championing an inclusive revitalization process for the inner-city that values existing businesses and residents. Over the course of the Millennium Water project, 30 participants from the Downtown Eastside or Aboriginal Association will be hired on site for a 6 week practicum.
UBU Program: The Urban Binner Unit program provides downtown collector/recyclers with a soft wheeled binning unit and access to community support. ITC sponsored two units in association with the United We Can organization.
Britannia Secondary School: ITC continues to support initiatives that benefit disadvantaged youth in this East Vancouver school through contributions to their food program and ITC provides a $500 bursary for 2 students to pursue an education in the trades.
Admiral Seymour Elementary School Playground Fundraising Campaign: Located in the Downtown East Side, Seymour Elementary School’s playground had no metal remaining; the slides were stolen for scrap metal and there were 2 boards nailed across the structure to prevent children from falling through. The school was not able to secure funds from the school board due to the absence of a Parent Advisory Committee. ITC approached our trade partners to match or exceed our donation and within weeks we all had raised $80,000 for the school’s new playground.
Various Donations: ITC has also provided monetary support to the following organizations: Ronald MacDonald House Alberta, local food banks, Salvation Army, Quest Outreach Society, Union Gospel Mission, Children’s Wish Foundation, National Sport Fund Trust and the United Way.
