About the Process

The Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies award is a hallmark of entrepreneurial excellence – the highest and most recognized honour available to Canadian businesses.

Since 1993, the Best Managed designation has worked to identify an elite group of companies that are focused on core vision, creating stakeholder value, excelling in the global economy and celebrating the contributions of the entire organization.

Applicant companies complete a detailed questionnaire outlining best practices and are evaluated on a range of dimensions: how they develop strategy, manage risk, excel in their marketplace and retain top talent.

Interviewers from Deloitte and CIBC Commercial Banking meet with the senior management team to verify and validate the responses provided. A national judging panel evaluates each company against the hundreds of competing applicants as a means to identify the 50 that are deemed to be Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies.

What it means to be the Best

Best Managed companies are the best of the best. The program’s rigorous evaluation process places an indelible stamp of success on companies that make the grade.

Recipients of the Best Managed designation are recognized as exclusive members of an elite group of Canadian companies. Some are startups. Others have existed for generations. Their products range from “old” economy to new, and their operations are found everywhere from small towns to major urban centers. But as Best Managed companies, they all exemplify corporate success.
